LIFT BEAM FOR USE WITH A SCAFFOLDThe invention relates to a lift beam for use with a scaffold, particularly on an offshore installation. On offshore installations there is a need for temporary lifting devices for instance for maintenance work like the changing of a valve. It is often too expensive and cumbersome to use cranes in lifting operations like this. In order to solve this problem, it is known in the art to use scaffold towers and simply put an H-beam between the scaffold towers resting on scaffolding elements. Wires or chains are then slung around the H-beam in order to perform the necessary lifting operation. One problem with this solution is that the H-beam is too heavy for one person to handle alone, and it is therefore not approved for this use. There are rules and regulations as to how heavy equipment scaffolding personnel can handle. There is also a danger connected with the arrangement where the H-beam is not secured to the scaffold towers. These problems have been addressed in patent publication NO321982B1 which discloses a lift beam having a support structure/scaffold tower which is built up of scaffolding elements comprising corner pillars. The top ends of the corner pillars extend above the scaffold tower. Two support beams are connected to the scaffold tower by means of blind bores with integrated bushings in the beams, said bushings being arranged to receive the top ends of the corner pillars which extend above the scaffold tower. The two support beams support a traverser carriage beam movably arranged on the support beams. One disadvantage of the lift beam according to NO321982B1 is that it is quite complex, as it requires at least two support beams, the traverser carriage beam and also of course a traverser carriage. The invention has for its object to remedy or to reduce at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art, or at least to provide a useful alternative to prior art.The object is achieved through features, which are specified in the description below and in the claims that follow. The invention is defined by the independent patent claim. The dependent claims define advantageous embodiments of the invention.P27856NO01 description and claims In a first aspect, the invention more specifically relates to a lift beam for use in lifting operations offshore, the lift beam being configured for being suspended between two scaffold towers, wherein the lift beam comprises connecting means for connecting the beam to the scaffold towers. The characterizing feature of the lift beam is that the connecting means comprises pad eyes arranged for securing the beam to two opposite corner pillars of the scaffold towers. The pad eyes for securing the beam to two opposite corner pillars solves the problem of the prior art H-beam in that it may be securely fastened to the scaffold towers. Furthermore, it overcomes the disadvantage of the complex solution of NO321982B1 in that the same beam may be used to perform the lifting and to connect the beam to the scaffold towers. A further advantage of this kind of connecting means for the lift beam is that it makes the lift beam more flexible with regards to lifting heights, i.e. the lift beam does not have to be arranged on top of the scaffold towers like the lift beam of NO321982B1, but may be connected to a new or existing scaffolding at any desired height. At the same time the lift beam according to the invention solves the same problem as NO321982B1 in that it provides a lift beam which may be securely fastened to the scaffolding towers, and which only comprise of components which are light enough for scaffold personnel to handle. The pad eyes may comprise two double pad eyes on each side of the lift beam, such that it can be connected to already existing connecting means for shackles. The lift beam may comprise at least two lifting eyes. A chain or a wire or the similar may run through the lifting eyes to a tackle or winch. Said chain is connectable to the object which is to be lifted by means of the lift beam. The lifting eyes may be removably arranged on the beam. Arranging the lifting eyes removably has the advantage that the lifting eyes may be replaced without having to replace the entire beam. The lift beam has two ends, and the lifting eyes are advantageously arranged at equal distances from the ends, i.e. one lifting eye is arranged on one half of the lift beam, and the other lifting eye is arranged correspondingly on the other half of the lift beam. The lifting eyes may be arranged such that they in a position of use of the lift beam are directed downwards and approximately perpendicular to the lift beam. However, the lifting eyes may alternatively be arranged at an angle from 45 to 90 relative to the lift beam. In one embodiment of the invention, the lifting eyes are inclined towards each other. The lift beam may comprise four lifting eyes. Two of the lifting eyes may have a different orientation from the other two lifting eyes. For example, two of the lifting eyes may be inclined such that they point towards a second lift beam which may be arranged at the same height between the scaffold towers and connected to two opposing corner pillars. It is obvious that the lift beam may comprise only one lifting eye, and that said lifting eye may be arranged such that it may be used together with a corresponding lifting eye on a parallel lift beam.P27856NO01description and claims However, in order for one lift beam to be suitable for different uses, it is an advantage that the lift beam comprises a pair of lifting eyes to be used for lifting objects substantially directly beneath the lift beam, as well as one lifting eye arranged near each of the two ends of the lift beam, for use together with corresponding lifting eyes on an opposite/parallel lift beam. The lift beam may comprise a support for a soft sling, wherein said support is arranged centrally on the lift beam. The lift beam may comprise a rectangular frame reinforced by a support structure. Providing the lift beam as a frame is one possible embodiment of the invention. The rectangular frame may comprise four frame elements each having a substantially U-shaped cross-section comprising one end portion, two side portions, and an open end facing the opposite frame element. The U-shape may alternatively be an open rectangle, i.e. the end portion may form right angles with the side portions. The effect of this feature is that this shape provides a strong beam with as little material as possible. The cross section of the frame elements makes the frame elements capable of withstanding larger bending forces than a plane frame element would be capable of.The lift beam may comprise a securing device for preventing the lift beam for falling down during installation. The securing device may be in the form of two pieces of chain provided with hooks for connecting to the scaffold towers. In a second aspect, the invention relates to a lifting system including the lift beam according to the first aspect of the invention, wherein the lifting system further comprises two scaffold towers between which the lift beam is suspended. The lifting system may comprise two lift beams. This is one possible embodiment of the invention. The two lift beams may be arranged parallel to each other and at the same height between the two scaffold towers, such that the lift beams and the scaffold towers covers a larger area for lifting, than one single lift beam will allow. In the following is described an example of a preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:Figs.1a and 1b show a prior art H-beam arranged between two scaffold towers;Figs.2a and 2b shows an embodiment of a lifting system and a lift beam according to the invention;Fig.3 shows in a larger scale an embodiment of the lift beam according to the invention;P27856NO01description and claims Fig.4 shows an embodiment of the lift beam according to the invention; andFig.5 shows two lift beams arranged parallel to each other between two scaffold towers.Referring to Figures 1a and 1b showing the H-beam prior art solution described above. A lift beam 1 is arranged between two scaffold towers 2. The lift beam 1 is an H-beam which is placed upon, and supported by, two opposite scaffolding elements 3 arranged perpendicularly to the lift beam 1. The scaffolding elements 3 are connected to corner pillars 4. Figure 1b shows that the lift beam 1 is placed half way between the corner pillars 4 of the scaffold towers 2.Figures 2a and 2b show a lifting system 100 comprising a lift beam 10 according to the invention. The lifting system 100 further comprises two scaffold towers 20. The scaffold towers 20 may be standard scaffold towers as known in the art. Figure 2b shows that the lift beam 10 is arranged between, and connected to, two opposite corner pillars 40 by means of connecting means 11. Figure 2a shows that the lift beam 10 is connected to the corner pillars 40 by means of two double pad eyes 11-1.Figure 3 shows an embodiment of the lift beam 10 in more detail. The lift beam 10 comprises a frame 13 having frame elements 13-1, and a support structure 14 for supporting the frame elements 13-1. Furthermore, there is provided a support 15 for a soft sling (not shown) in a middle portion of the lift beam 10. In order to prevent the lift beam 10 from falling down during installation, it is provided with securing means 16 here shown as two chains with hooks. A first pair of lifting eyes 17 is provided at the end portions of the lift beam 10, for lifting objects from substantially directly beneath the lift beam 10. A second pair of lifting eyes 18 is provided in a plane perpendicular to the frame elements 13 of the lift beam 10, such that they may face another lift beam 10 arranged parallel to the lift beam 10 to which they belong. These lifting eyes 18 are for lifting objects arranged between the two parallel lift beams 10. The soft sling support 15 may be provided with rounded edges.Figure 4 shows another embodiment of the lift beam 10. This lift beam 10 shows the first pair of lifting eyes 17 arranged a little bit further towards the middle portion of the lift beam 10. This figure also shows more clearly that the elements of the frame 13 may be substantially U-shaped elements.Figure 5 shows the lifting system 100 comprising two scaffold towers 20 with two lift beams 10 suspended therebetween. It should be noted that the above-mentioned embodiments illustrate rather than limit the invention, and that those skilled in the art will be able to design many alternative embodiments without departing from the scope of the appended claims. In the claims, any reference signs placed between parentheses shall not be construed as limiting the claim. Use of the verb "comprise" and its conju-P27856NO01description and claims gations does not exclude the presence of elements or steps other than those stated in a claim. The article "a" or "an" preceding an element does not exclude the presence of a plurality of such elements. The mere fact that certain measures are recited in mutually different dependent claims does not indicate that a combination of these measures cannot be used to advantage.P27856NO01description and claims
