Description, claims and drawings

Disclaimer: This text has been machine-scanned and may contain errors – please refer to "Publications" for legally binding content. Description
Technical Field[0001] The present invention relates to installation of power cables to transmission towers. In particular, the invention relates to an arrangement and a method for such mounting. Background Art[0002] It is common to use helicopters for stringing power lines to transmission towers. Typically, a pulling line (sometimes referred to as a pilot line) is first stringed to a row of transmission towers by pulling it into position with a helicopter. Then, the power line itself is attached to the pulling line and pulled into position to be supported by the transmission towers.[0003] The installation of the pulling line is a cumbersome process since the pulling line needs to be guided into position in the transmission towers below the cross members of the transmission towers. Various arrangements have been developed to enable this.[0004] For instance, one known arrangement is referred to as a needle, such as disclosed in publication US4487395. Another solution is disclosed in US8720863, where a rotating member is suspended to the helicopter, while the pulling line is attached to a bow member that slidingly interfaces with the rotating member.[0005] Publication US4531714 A discloses a transmission tower stringing arrangement for stringing lines to transmission towers. The arrangement has a main body with a first reception recess and a guide profile. The guide profile has an upper profile part and a lower profile part on respective sides of the first reception recess.[0006] Publication US4494732 A also discloses a transmission tower stringing arrangement, in the form of a U-shaped hook device. The device has a tensioned sock line attached to its bight portion. A helicopter haul line is removably connected to a first end of the device. After hanging the hook device to the tower, the helicopter haul line is moved to another attachment point on the hook device. [0007] An object of the present invention may be to provide an arrangement for performing the above discussed stringing quicker, more safely, and/or more cost efficient.Summary of invention[0008] According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided transmission tower stringing arrangement for stringing lines to transmission towers. The arrangement comprising a main body with a first reception recess and a guide profile. The guide profile comprises an upper profile part and a lower profile part on respective sides of the first reception recess. The arrangement also has a sliding body with a sliding profile. The sliding body is configured to slide between a lower position wherein the sliding profile engages with the lower profile part and not with the upper profile part, and an upper portion wherein the sliding profile engages with the upper profile part and not with the lower profile part. Moreover, the arrangement further comprises a second reception recess that is arranged below the first reception recess when the sliding body is in the lower position. The second reception recess is defined between the sliding body and the main body.[0009] The said lines to be installed or stringed are typically pulling lines installed before the installation of power lines, or power lines (in cases where power lines are installed without the prior installation of pulling lines).[0010] The first and second reception recesses are configured to receive a cross bar of a transmission tower that shall carry electric power cables.[0011] In some embodiments, the main body comprises a suspension line interface and that the sliding body comprises a pulling line interface. These interfaces are configured to connect to a suspension line such that the arrangement can be lifted, such as by a helicopter, and to a pulling line. The pulling line interface can also be connected to an electric power cable (typically when the operator strings the power cable directly, without the use of a pulling line).[0012] The sliding body and/or the main body may in some embodiments comprise a detachable abutting organ that is configured to abut against a part of the main body or the sliding body, respectively. [0013] Moreover, the lower profile part can comprise a lower limitation face configured to abut against the abutting organ. Alternatively, the upper profile part may comprise an upper limitation face configured to abut against the abutting organ.[0014] In some embodiments, the upper profile part and/or the lower profile part comprises a profile slot configured to receive an abutting organ.[0015] The above are various ways to limit the traveling path of the sliding body along the main body, between the upper position and the lower position.[0016] Advantageously, when the sliding body is in the upper position, the second reception recess communicates with the first reception recess.[0017] When stating that the second reception recess communicates with the first reception recess, it is meant that an element, such as the cross bar of a transmission tower can move from a position in the second reception recess into the first reception recess.[0018] The second reception recess can advantageously be defined partly by a downwardly facing inclined sliding face of the sliding body.[0019] Preferably, the second reception recess can also, in addition, be partly defined by a capture surface of the main body. The capture surface will facilitate the initial engagement between for instance a cross bare of a transmission tower and the said arrangement.[0020] According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of installing a line below a cross bar of a transmission tower. The method comprises:a) with an aerial vehicle, such as a helicopter or a drone, lowering a transmission tower stringing arrangement onto the cross bar, such that the cross bar is received in a second reception recess of the transmission tower stringing arrangement;b) lowering the main body of the transmission tower stringing arrangement with respect to the cross bar and thus sliding a sliding body of the transmission tower stringing arrangement upwards with respect to the main body; c) aligning the cross bar with a first reception recess of the main body and receiving the cross bar in the first reception recess;d) sliding the sliding body down to a lower position with respect to the main body; e) pulling the main body out of engagement with the cross bar, thus moving the cross bar out of the first reception recess;f) pulling the transmission tower stringing arrangement further away from the cross bar while line remains connected to the sliding body and in a position below the cross bar.[0021] It shall be understood that with the term cross bar is meant any rod, beam, strut or similar item that is part of the transmission tower and which has horizontal or inclined extension.Detailed description of the invention[0022] While various features of the invention have been discussed in general terms above, a more detailed and non-limiting example of embodiment will be given in the following with reference to the drawings, in whichFig. 1 is a schematic view of a transmission tower with pulling lines arranged; Fig. 2 is a schematic view of a row of transmission towers, wherein a helicopter carries an arrangement according to the invention;Fig. 3 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the arrangement according to the present invention;Fig. 4 to Fig.8 are side views illustrating use of the arrangement according to the invention during stringing of a pulling line;Fig. 9 is a top view of the arrangement;Fig. 10 is a cross section perspective view through an arrangement according to the invention; Fig. 11 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the present invention; andFig. 12 is a side view of the embodiment shown in Fig.11.[0023] Fig. 1 depicts a transmission tower 101. The transmission tower 101 comprises three rotating support blocks 103 configured to support a respective pulling line 105. The support blocks 103 are suspended from a horizontal cross bar 107. The cross bar 107 is supported on two supports 109 having an A-design.[0024] Fig. 2 schematically depicts a row of transmission towers 101, wherein a pulling line 105 is being strung into position below the cross bar 107 and supported by a support block 103 of each respective transmission tower 101. The pulling line 105 connects to a transmission tower stringing arrangement 1 according to the present invention. The transmission tower stringing arrangement 1 is suspended from a helicopter 111 with a suspension line 113. The transmission tower stringing arrangement 1 will herein often be referred to as “the arrangement” for brevity.[0025] While the general purpose and application of the invention now should be clear to the skilled reader, a detailed discussion of the arrangement 1 according to the invention will be given in the following.[0026] Fig. 3 depicts the arrangement 1 according to the invention with a perspective view. It comprises a main body 3 and a sliding body 5. The sliding body 5 is configured to slide along a guide profile 7 on the main body 3. The guide profile 7 comprises an upper profile part 7a and a lower profile part 7b. The guide profile 7 is received inside an opposite sliding profile 9 of the sliding body 5. The skilled reader will appreciate that the guide profile 7 and the sliding profile 9 could be oppositely arranged, such that the sliding profile 9 of the sliding body 5 is received inside the guide profile 7 of the main body 3.[0027] Still referring to Fig.3, the guide profile 7 is divided by a first reception recess 11, such that the upper profile part 7a and the lower profile part 7b are arranged on respective sides of the first reception recess 11. The first reception recess 11 is configured to receive the cross bar 107 or similar structure, such as a beam. This will be discussed further below. [0028] The main body 3 comprises a suspension line interface 13 configured for connection to the suspension line 113 (cf. Fig.2). The suspension line interface 13 is arranged at an upper section 14 of the main body 3. Advantageously, the upper section 14 may be construed as the upper third portion of the main body 3. As shown in this embodiment and preferably also in other embodiments, the suspension line interface 13 can be arranged above the first reception recess 11.[0029] In addition to the first reception recess 11, the arrangement 1 further comprises a second reception recess 17. The second reception recess 17 is defined between a lower portion 16 of the main body 3, and a portion of the sliding body 5, when the sliding body 5 is in its lower position as shown in Fig.3. As shown in Fig.3, in this situation the second reception recess 17 is below the first reception recess 11.[0030] Furthermore, the sliding body 5 comprises a pulling line interface 15, configured for connection to the pulling line 105.[0031] The skilled person will appreciate that in some situations, in particular if the power cable (not shown) is not too heavy, one may string the power cable with the arrangement 1 directly. I.e., one may avoid the use of the pulling line 105. In such situations, the pulling line interface 15 may connect to the power cable.[0032] In the embodiment shown in Fig.3, the main body 3 has a plurality of suspension line interfaces 13. Similarly, the sliding body 5 has a plurality of pulling line interfaces 15. This enables the operator to adapt the angle of the arrangement 1 during use, according to – for instance – the pull in the pulling line 105. Moreover, the choice of connection points for the suspension line 113 and the pulling line 105 may be affected by the wish of the helicopter pilot.[0033] It shall be noted that although reference is made herein to the helicopter 111, as shown in Fig.2, one could also use another type of aerial vehicle, such as an unmanned drone.[0034] The use of the arrangement 1 according to the invention will be discussed in the following, first with reference to Fig.4. In Fig.4, a side view of the arrangement 1 is shown. It is suspended from the helicopter 111 with the suspension line 113.Moreover, the pulling line 105 is connected to the sliding body 5. Also shown is the cross bar 107. The arrangement 1 has landed onto the cross bar 107 such that the cross bar 107 is received in the second reception recess 17.[0035] By means of gravity, the main body 3 is allowed to slide downwards with respect to the cross bar 107 and the sliding body 5. In other words, the sliding body 5 slides upwards along the guide profile 7, from the lower profile part 7b, across the gap constituted by the first reception recess 11, and to the upper profile part 7a.[0036] This situation is shown in Fig.5. By releasing some of the tension in the suspension line 113, the pull of the pulling line 105 will move the arrangement 1 such that the cross bar 107 moves into the first reception recess 11.[0037] This situation is shown in Fig.6. The main body 3 of the arrangement 1 now rests on the cross bar 107. Moreover, since there is no contact between the cross bar 107 and the sliding body 5, the sliding body 5 will slide back down to its lower position, as shown in Fig.4.[0038] This position is shown in Fig.7. As the skilled person now will appreciate, the helicopter 111 can now pull the arrangement 1 further to release it from its engagement with the cross bar 107. This is shown in Fig.8. The arrangement 1, along with the connected pulling line 105 can now be pulled towards the next transmission tower 101. The pulling line 105 will then be positioned below the cross bar 107 of the preceding transmission tower 101.[0039] The second reception recess 17 is defined by the lower profile part 7b and an oppositely arranged part of the sliding body 5. In particular, the sliding body 5 comprises an inclined sliding face 19, against which the cross bar 107 will slide when moving towards the first reception recess 11. Moreover, the sliding body 5 comprises a capture surface 21 that extends vertically or at least near vertically, to capture the cross bar 107 when the arrangement 1 is landed on it.[0040] To facilitate landing onto and correct positioning of the arrangement on the cross bar 107, the main body 3 comprises an inclined and downwardly directed guide face 23 (see e.g. Fig.4).[0041] The guide face 23 connects with a substantially horizontal base surface 25 along which the cross bar 107 can slide before entering into the second reception recess 17. When landed on the ground, such as during storage of the arrangement 1, the main body 3 can be supported on the base surface 25.[0042] Fig. 9 depicts the arrangement 1 from above and illustrates the engagement between of the guide profile 7 and the sliding profile 9.[0043] As shown in Fig.3 and Fig.5, the main body 3 comprises an upper limitation face 27 that engages an abutment face 29 of the sliding body 5 when the latter is in the uppermost position.[0044] Correspondingly, the main body 3 comprises a lower limitation face 33, which is indicated in the perspective cross section view of Fig.10. Fig.10 corresponds to the view shown in Fig.3, however with some parts cut away for illustrational purpose. The lower limitation face 33 is arranged in association with the lower profile part 7b and abuts against an abutting organ 31 of the sliding body. The abutting organ 31 is secured to the sliding body 5 in a releasable manner.[0045] When assembling the arrangement 1, the sliding body 5 is slid onto the main body 3 from below. Then the abutting organ 31 is attached to the sliding body 5. In the shown embodiment, the abutting organ 31 is attached by inserting it into a receiving holding channel 35 of the sliding body 5.[0046] To enable the sliding body 5 to move into the upper position, such as shown in Fig.5, the upper profile part 7a comprises a profile slot 7c configured to receive the abutting organ 31.[0047] Notably, instead of having the lower limitation face 33 arranged with the lower profile part 7b, one could instead arrange it as an upper limitation face in association with the upper profile part 7a. The upper limitation face 27 could then instead be configured as a lower limitation face.[0048] Another alternative could be to without the said lower limitation face 33 arranged with the lower profile part 7b, and instead install a detachable lower limitation face similar to the upper limitation face 27 on the main body 3.[0049] Fig. 11 and Fig.12 depict an alternative embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention. In this embodiment, the main body 3 comprises a plurality of plates 3a that have been attached together to form the main body 3. The plates 3a can for instance be joined by welding, riveting or with a hardening adhesive. The selected method may be selected, inter alia, according to the material of the plates 3a.[0050] While having a different appearance than the previously discussed embodiment, the embodiment shown in Fig.11 and Fig.12 function in substantially same fashion as the previous embodiment. Hence, corresponding reference numbers are introduced in Fig.11 and Fig.12, and their function and purpose will not be revisited.[0051] A feature distinguishing the embodiment of Fig.11 and Fig.12 from the previous embodiment is, however, that the upper limitation face 27 is in the form of an edge of a plate. Similarly, the lower limitation face 33 is also in the form of an edge of a plate.[0052] Another difference is that the sliding body 5 comprises a bow 17a that constitutes at least a part of the second reception recess 17.
