3494211[0001] The present invention relates to a dog lead attachment for a bicycle. The dog lead attachment facilitates cycling with a dog and provides a safe and simple solution to exercise a dog and to bring the dog along when cycling. Background Art[0002] US 4,854,269, (same applicant) discloses an apparatus for exercising dogs from a bicycle. The present invention is a development this solution. This prior art solution is difficult and at times impossible to adapt to the great variety of bicycle frames that exists today, a variety that not existed when US 4,854,269 was filed. A bracket fixing the apparatus to the bicycle frame and holding a bar attaching a spring element, is too bulky and extends too far in a direction towards the rear wheel of the bicycle. This makes it impossible to attach the apparatus of US 4,854,269 to a high proportion of modern bicycles.[0003] Additionally, is the height of the bar fixed and is thus difficult to optimize in terms of distance to the feet when pedaling, and in terms of a vantage point for the attachment of the dog lead.[0004] Furthermore, must the bar holding the spring element be removed completely and carried separately when the apparatus is not used to prevent the bar from extending out to the side of the bicycle.[0005] The solution of US 4,854,269 relies on a bespoke fastening bolt that requires tools to be changed from one side to the other, that is cost intensive to produce, and that is easy to misplace and lose. A solution allowing a change of side for the dog without tools, or the use of a dog lead attachment on both sides of the bicycle, requires yet another, different, bespoke, fastening bolt that incurs extra expenses and complexity. The bracket is formed of two bracket elements that must touch each other at the location where the bespoke fastening bolt is installed for proper installation and this design thus severely limits the range of bicycle frame sizes that allows installation.[0006] US2005005876A1 discloses a leash for connecting an animal to a vehicle. The leach includes a bar, means for fastening the bar to a frame of the vehicle, and a rope fixed between the bar and a collar on the animal. First fastening means are fixed to the frame of the vehicle and second fastening means associated with the bar is fastened and/or released rapidly by simple coupling/uncoupling of the first fastening means. 3494212Summary of invention[0007] It is an object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for exercising dogs from a bicycle omitting the disadvantages with the prior art solution mentioned above.Specifically the present invention provides a solution that is possible to fit to a variety of bicycle frames and configurations, that has adjustable height, that can be shifted from one side of the bicycle to the other without using tools, that can be placed in a position out of the way when it not is in use, and that not includes parts that are easy to misplace and expensive to manufacture. The ability to adjust the height of dog lead attachment allows a user to keep a main attachment element sufficiently high to keep it out of the way of the foot when pedaling, and sufficiently low to keep the influence of the pull from the dog on the bicycle easy to manage.[0008] Accordingly, the present invention concerns a bicycle dog lead attachment including a main attachment element extending between a bicycle clamp and a spring element with a spring rod between a lead attachment eye and a coil spring. The bicycle clamp includes two bicycle clamp halves, whereof at least one of the bicycle clamp halves includes a clamp hole for a fixing pin across a tubular portion for the main attachment element, at least one bicycle contact potion and at least one clamp ear. The main attachment element includes a height adjustment portion with at least two height adjustment holes for the fixing pin at a fist end, and a spring attachment portion offset from the height adjustment portion at a second end. A fixing pin extend through one of the at least two height adjustment holes in the height adjustment portion of the main attachment element and the clamp hole of at least one the clamp halves.[0009] The two bicycle clamp halves may be identical.[0010] The main attachment element may include a first bend, a distance portion, a second bend, a height portion and a third bend between the height adjustment portion and the spring attachment portion).[0011] The main attachment element may define one single plane.[0012] The bicycle dog lead attachment may further include bolt holes through the ears of the two bicycle clamp halves, and bolts extending through the bolt holes.[0013] The height adjustment portion may furthermore include a resting position hole offset 90° from the height adjustment holes, and the fixing pin may be configured to extend through the resting position hole and the clamp hole when the main attachment element is in the resting position. 3494213[0014] The spring attachment portion may be parallel to, and offset from the height adjustment portion.[0015] Furthermore, the present invention concerns a bicycle clamp comprising two bicycle clamp halves, each including a clamp hole for a fixing pin across a tubular portion configured to secure a main attachment element, at least one bicycle contact potion and at least one clamp ear.[0016] Each of the two clamp halves may include two clamp ears defining one single plane.[0017] Each of the clamp ears may include holes and bolts extending through the holes.[0018] Furthermore, the invention concerns a bicycle with a bicycle dog lead attachment as described above.Detailed description of the invention[0019] Fig.1 is a perspective view from behind of a bicycle 1 with a dog lead attachment 10 of the invention secured to the saddle post 2 of the bicycle 1. The dog lead attachment 10 of the invention can also be secured to the frame seat tube 3 of the bicycle 1. The dog lead attachment 10 includes a bent metal tube forming a main attachment element 11. The dog lead attachment 10 is shown in an activated, extended position at an intermediate height determined by a location of a position of the main attachment element 11 in a bicycle clamp 13 clamping onto the saddle post 2. A fixing pin 14 extends through the bicycle clamp 13 and the main attachment element 11 to hold the main attachment element 11 in position. A spring element 12 is secured to the main attachment element 11 at one end and to a dog lead at the other end.[0020] A resting position hole 27 in a height adjustment portion of the main attachment element 11 allows the fixing pin 14 to lock the attachment element 11 to the bicycle clamp 13 in a resting position locating substantially parallel to the bicycle frame. The resting position hole 27 is offset 90° from the height adjustment holes 15, and wherein the fixing pin 14 is configured to extend through the resting position hole and the clamp hole 9 when the main attachment element (11) is in the resting position. The fixing pin 14 is typically a quick lock release pin or a shaft lock pin. Clearly, the term fixing pin is intended to cover screws, bolts or other elements able to lock the attachment element 11 in relation to the bicycle clamp.[0021] Fig.2 is a side view of the bicycle 1 with the dog lead attachment 10 of the invention secured to the saddle post 2 of the bicycle 1. The dog lead attachment 10 is in a position swung backwards to be in a resting position, out of the way when it is not in use. A separate 3494214hole in the main attachment element 11 allows the fixing pin to hold the main attachment element 11 to the bicycle clamp 13 in the backwards position. The spring element 12 extends upwards close to the rear wheel of the bicycle. A lower height adjustment hole 15 for the fixing pin extends through the main attachment element 11.[0022] Fig.3 is a side view of the dog lead attachment 10 of the invention. The main attachment element 11 is formed by a metal tube and includes a height adjustment portion 20, a first bend 21, a distance portion 22, a second bend 23, a height portion 24 and a third bend 25 extending into an upwards extending spring attachment portion 26. The spring element 12 is made of one piece of spring steel rod, extends from the spring attachment portion 26 and includes a lead attachment eye 16, a spring rod 17, and a coil spring 18. A breakable load restrictor 19 between the lead and the lead attachment eye 16 ensures that the lead is not overloaded.[0023] The bicycle clamp 13 includes two clamp halves, each with a tubular portion for the main attachment element 11. Each tubular portion includes a clamp hole for the fixing pin. Two height adjustment holes 15 are visible in the height adjustment portion 20 of the main attachment element 11. The height adjustment holes 15 are made to align with the clamp hole to allow the fixing pin to be inserted and to allow the position of the height of the main attachment element 11 in relation to the bicycle clamp 13 and thus the bicycle to be adjusted.[0024] Fig.4 is a perspective view of the bicycle clamp 13 in greater detail. The bicycle clamp 13 includes two similar clamp halves 30, 31, each including a tubular portion 33, a transition gap 32, bicycle contact potions 36, two clamp ears 34 and a clamp reinforcement 35. Four bolts 40 clamp the two clamp halves 30, 31 together. The symmetrical design of the bicycle clamp 13 allows the main attachment element to be secured to both sides of the bicycle, and no tools are required to move the main attachment element from one side of the clamp 13 and the bicycle and to the other. Clearly the inner diameters of the tubular portions 33 are adapted to fit around the outer diameter of the main attachment element. The clamp reinforcement 35 prevents the ears 34 from bending and the tubular portions 33 from deforming when the bolts 40 are tightened. The symmetrical design makes the tubular portions 33 aligned with the bicycle frame in a transverse direction when the clamp 13 is installed. The clamp halves do not need to touch each other when the clamp is installed, and the clamp may thus be installed on a wide range of frame shapes and thicknesses.[0025] The bolts 40 may include nuts or may enter a threaded portion of one clamp half 30, 31. Deformation of the tubular portions 33 will prevent installation of the main attachment 3494215element. Gear and breaking wires etc. may run through the bicycle clamp 13 in the gap between the two clamp halves 30, 31 or through the transition gap 32.[0026] The bicycle contact potions 36 are located between the tubular portion 33, and the two clamp ears 34 and are shaped to accommodate a variety of bicycle frame or saddle post shapes and dimensions. Liners (not shown) are located between the bicycle frame / saddle post and the bicycle clamp 13 to prevent scratching of the bicycle frame / saddle post, to facilitate installation onto bicycles within a range of dimensions and to improve attachment/provide a certain flexibility to maintain tightness.[0027] The solution clearly also allows installation of a main attachment element on each side of the bicycle to exercise two dogs simultaneously.[0028] The clamp holes 9 for the fixing pin for fixing the main attachment element to the bicycle clamp 13, extend through the centre of the tubular portions 33.[0029] The term “tubular portion” and “tube” is intended to cover both round tubes, square tubes, and rectangular tubes. Clearly the tubular portion of the clamp must fit on the outside of the main attachment element and the shapes must be complementary/matching.1 Bicycle 21 First bend2 Saddle post 22 Distance portion3 Frame seat tube 23 Second bend9 Clamp hole 24 Height portion10 Bicycle dog lead attachment 25 Third bend11 Main attachment element 26 Spring attachment portion12 Spring element 27 Resting position hole13 Bicycle clamp 30 First clamp half14 Fixing pin 31 Second clamp half15 Height adjustment hole 32 Transition gap16 Lead attachment eye 33 Tubular portion17 Spring rod 34 Clamp ears 349421618 Coil spring 35 Clamp reinforcement 19 Load restrictor 36 Bicycle contact portion 20 Height adjustment portion 40 Bolt
