3501371Method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish to be electrically stunned and slaughteredThe disclosed embodiments relate to a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish to be electrically stunned and slaughtered.5 The disclosed embodiments especially relate to a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pretreatment of fish to be electrically stunned and slaughtered reducing injuries and improving the quality of the fish.Background10 It is well known to use electric stunner devices for stunning fish and other animals, such as crustaceans, to immobilize (stun/anesthetize) the fish by applying electric current/voltage prior to slaughtering or treatment action.Over the years many different electric stunner devices have been proposed wherein some of them perform the electric stunning in water and some of the perform the stunning in air/not submerged 15 in water, also known as dry-stunning.Examples of the mentioned electric stunner devices are found, among others, in, WO 99/55166 A1, WO 01/95732 A1, GB 2417408 A, NO 347551 B1, GB 2557245 A, WO 2006/130017 A1, CA 2637860 A1, NO 326069 B1 and NO20210771 A1.From WO 99/55166 A1 it is further known that it may be advantageous in many cases to rinse the 20 crustaceans in fresh water prior to stunning with the purpose of removing the film of salt water to prevent the applied electrical current to flow through the film of salt water across the surface of the crustacean rather than through the body of the crustacean. If this occurs, the effectiveness of the electric stun on the crustacean is reduced. Removal of the salt water by, for example replacing it with fresh water which has a higher electrical resistance, will reduce the conductivity of this path 25 and so increase the proportion of the electric current which passes through the body of the crustacean. However, even though WO 99/55166A1 mention the removal of salt water on the body of the crustaceans, there is no control of this and one does not know whether or not the treatment was sufficient or if the treatment covered the entire exterior surface. It is also a considerable difference between crustaceans and fish as regards how they are affected by electric stunning, as 3501372well as the external surface of a fish being completely different than crustaceans resulting in that one will have to address the salinity in a different approach. It is well known that the electric stunning of a fish results in some percentages of fish having back fracture and/or blood in the filet. Accordingly, reducing the quality of the slaughtered fish. None of 5 the prior art solutions addresses this problem or suggest a solution to this problem. There is accordingly a need for a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish to be electrically stunned and slaughtered. The invention10 The disclosed embodiments provide a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish to be electrically stunned and slaughtered partly or entirely solving the drawbacks and lacks of prior art solutions.Provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish ensuring lower number of injuries, compared to prior art solutions.15 Also provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish ensuring high quality of a slaughtered fish.Provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish providing a stable and controllable pre-treatment of fish to enter an electric stunning device. Also provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish enabling 20 the same basis for each individual fish entering an electric stunning device.Provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish providing as low variation on fish entering an electric stunning device as possible. Also provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish enabling controlled salinity of a fish entering an electric stunning device.25 Provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish enabling affection of the osmotic pressure of the respective fish to calm the fish. 3501373Also provided herein is a method and pre-treatment apparatus for pre-treatment of fish enabling controlled moisture of a fish entering an electric stunning device.Further features will appear by consideration of the following description, claims and attached drawings.5The inventionA method for pre-treatment of fish to be electrically stunned and slaughtered according to the present invention is defined by the technical features of claim 1.
