3501541AFLOATINGCLOSEDFISHPENASSEMBLYTechnical field5 The present invention relates to a floating, closed aquaculture pen assembly suitable for fish farming. Background artFish farming in open cages is a cost-effective form of aquaculture. One challenge is that 10 open cages can be damaged, creating holes through which fish can escape. This can lead to unwanted genetic mixing between wild fish and farmed salmon. Norway produces approximately 1.7 million tons of farmed salmon annually. This production means that more than 1 billion salmon are in cages along the Norwegian coast. Considering that the number of wild salmon in Norwegian rivers is estimated to be under 1 million, even a small loss of 15 farmed salmon escaping poses a significant genetic threat to wild salmon. Therefore, it is crucial that the production of farmed salmon is carried out with sustainable technology that minimizes escapes.A significant reduction in the escape of farmed salmon has been achieved compared to earlier times through better control of the open solutions used. However, it is clear that this is 20 probably not sufficient. To further reduce escapes, the use of closed farming solutions in the sea or on land is likely necessary. This could also lead to other improvements in fish health. Today, there are several solutions for sea farming using closed cage systems. In a closed cage, water is pumped in and released through an opening, usually at the bottom. Closed cages are kept afloat by attaching the impermeable sheet to a floating ring. The floating ring 25 will move both vertically and horizontally when exposed to waves. The water volume in the impermeable sheet constitutes a large mass, and the floating ring will, due to the waves, seek to raise and lower the impermeable sheet with the water volume. The attachment of the impermeable sheet and the impermeable sheet itself are therefore subjected to significant forces. The attachment of the impermeable sheet to the floating ring requires the use of 30 shock absorbers. Even with shock absorbers, the fabric is subjected to fatigue fractures, and this type of cage has significant restrictions when they are subjected to waves, limiting their use.Publication NO 348093 describes a closed fish cage with an impermeable sheet resting on a separate, nearly flat fixed bottom. The impermeable sheet is attached with straps or ropes to 35 a ring above the top of the fixed bottom. The fixed bottom is also connected to this ring. In the presence of currents outside the cage, the current can cause water to enter between the 3501542impermeable sheet and the fixed bottom. This will create friction between the impermeable sheet and the fixed bottom, causing damage to the impermeable sheet over time.NO 343717 B1 discloses a new type of fish pen. Affixing one or more insulation panels to the outside of the fish pen improves the thermal isolation and improves stability. A method of 5 insulating a traditional enclosed fish pen is also disclosed.Summary of the inventionAccording to one aspect, it is provided a floating, closed fish pen assembly. The attachment arrangement 6 as described above reduces or even eliminates the relative movement, and therefore the friction, between the bottom sheet 3 and bottom support element 2. The attachment arrangement 6 also further enforces the bottom sheet and bottom support element by providing an additional interface on the bottom sheet’s outer surface and bottom support element’s inner surface, respectively.35 3501547The bottom support element absorbs the vertical forces, and the bottom sheet is not subjected to the fatigue forces that would be applied to the bottom sheet if it had to bear the forces from the floating ring without the use of the bottom support element. At the same time, the bottom sheet remains stable on the bottom support element and is not subjected to wear 5 from friction against the bottom support element. The outer surface 3a and inner surface 3b of the bottom sheet 3 can be understood as the outer surface and inner surface, respectively, in relation to the center of the floating closed fish pen assembly. The same applies to the inner surface 2b and outer surface 2a of the 10 bottom support element 2. The outer surface 3a of the bottom sheet 3 and the inner surface 2b of the bottom support element are therefore arranged opposite each other.Although separated for visual clarity in Figure 3, a first part 6a of the attachment arrangement 6 is attached to the outer surface 3a of the bottom sheet 3. An upper section 36 of the dead fish collector holder engages with the edge 31 of the dead fish collector.25 To expel the water flow that is pumped into the net pen, a slightly higher pressure is required inside the net pen than in the water outside the net pen. This overpressure also ensures that the net pen is kept expanded so that the entire volume of the net pen can be utilized for aquaculture. This overpressure should not be too high to limit the energy costs of pumping the water flow in and also not create vertical and horizontal forces that overload the net pen.30 Nevertheless, the overpressure should be sufficient to drive the water flow out through the bottom unit of the net pen. This overpressure should normally only be a few centimeters of water column and preferably not exceed 10 cm in height. To achieve this, the bottom unit must have a sufficient cross-section to ensure these conditions.35 According to an embodiment, a method of assembling a floating, closed fish pen assembly is provided.
